1. Mojgan Shahriari (1998).

M. Shahriari has been employed by the Agricultural biotechnology research center. Shahriari did DNA finger printing using pTBN12 RNA probe on he Iranian strains of M. Tuberculosis

3-Farah Farahani (1999)

Using multi locus enzyme electriophoresis F. Farahani analyzed Atypical mycobacteria including M. fortuitum, M. kansasii and M. chelonae cultured from patients in Tehran

3-Mitra Safavi (2000). Part time employee at the University of Florida, USA. Mitra Safavi applied RFLP to analyze multi drug resistant tuberculosis isolated from patients in southern suburbs of Tehran

4-Atusa Aliahmadi (2001), Employed by Biotechnology Department at Pasteur Institute of Iran

8- Alimohammad Behroozikhah (PhD candidate)

A. Behroouzikhah is optimizing PCR techniques for differentiation of Brucella abortus and Brucel

9-Ramin Abiri (PhD candidate).

Ramin Abiri is studying population genetics of pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated from burned patients

RESEARCH PROJECTS

I am doing research on molecular epidemiology of bacterial disease in humans and animals. Mycobacteriology is my particular interest. We are doing research on nosocomial infections and have focused on Enterococci. Our projects are collaborated between the Universities and research centers and listed as follows:

1-Identification, genetic characterization, drug susceptibility testing of Enterococci isolated from patients in Tehran (collaboration with Department of Health and Tehran Hospitals)

2-DNA fingerprinting of M. tuberculosis complex isolates used in PPD production (Collaboration with Razi Research Institute for Vaccine and Serum)

3- Application of AP-PCR for identification and differentiation of Brucella abortus and B. meletensis (Collaboration with Tehran University)

4-Genetic characterization of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates cultured from burn patients by Multilocus enzyme electrophoresis and plasmid profiling (Collaboration with Pasteur Institute of Iran)


SUMMARY OF EXPERIMENTS

I have studied, trained and applied the molecular biology techniques to study the population genetics of the microorganisms. To conduct such researches I teach such techniques and other methods of research to my students 

Some of the experiments which I use are as follows:

DNA fingerprinting of Mycobacterium tuberculosis using different nucleic acid probes (RNA probe, PCR probe and oligonucleotide probe).

Using of polymerase chain reaction (PCR)  for various applications.

Application of single strand conformation polymorphism to study the mutation in the genes involved in drug resistance in M. tuberculosis.

Application of conventional  bacteriological tests to identify the bacteria to the species level.

Application of MEE to study the population genetics of different microorganism

Development of pulsed field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) for different species of mycobacteria as well as other bacteria.
