AlZahra University, Islamic Republic of Iran’s university exclusively for women and the symbol for women’s higher education was established in 1964. Now with more than 50 years of experience the university is comprised of 10 faculties 4 specialized research centers and one branch which educates students in the three levels of bachelors, masters and PhD.AlZahra university campus is 14 hectares large and in addition to the faculty and research center physical spaces it includes: laboratories, specialized sites and workshops, conference halls, international convention centers, the center for teaching Farsi to non-Farsi speakers, swimming pools, sports halls and gymnasiums, modern and traditional restaurants, bank, post office and a kindergarten.
The foundations of the faculty of literature was based at the start of the establishment of the university by admitting students for the Translation of Foreign languages field of study in 1964. The faculty became independent in 1994 and admits students in all levels in the fields of History, Linguistics, Persian Language and Literature, Arabic Language and Literature, English Language and Literature, French Language Translation and Russian Language. The faculty is also equipped with specialized audio and visual laboratories for teaching languages.
The Faculty of Theology, Literature and Humanities was established in 1985 and started admitting students that year. It became an independent faculty in 2002 and admits students in the fields of Quranic science and Hadith, Jurisprudence and the principles of Islamic Law, Islamic Philosophy and Wisdom, History of Islamic Civilization and Culture and Religions and Mysticism.
The Faculty of Physical Education was established in 1994 and is equipped with specialized laboratory of Motor Behavior and laboratory of Sports Physiology and admits students in the degrees of bachelors and masters in the fields of Sports Sciences, Biological Sciences in Sports, Humanities in Sports Sciences, Motor Behavior and Sports Physiology.
Management and Accounting are one of the oldest fields in AlZahra University and were established at the time of the foundation of the university. In 1964 when the university was established, Foreign Language Translation and Secretarial Studies were two fields in which students were admitted to. Later the subfields of Secretarial Studies and Accounting was divided into two independent fields of Office Services and Accounting.
In 1986 the Faculty of Social Sciences and Economics was established. This faculty has new building and state of the art educational facilities and admits students in the fields of Economic sciences, Family Studies, Accounting, Business Management, Social Sciences, Law, Financial Management, Management of Information Technology and their related subfields.
The faculty of Educational Sciences and Psychology was formed in 1994. Psychology was one of the first fields of study established upon the foundation of the university. In addition to Psychology, this faculty contains scientific and research centers and resources and admits students to the fields of Counseling, Educational Sciences, Knowledge and Information Sciences and their subfields.
Students were admitted to study in the fields of mathematical sciences in 1976. With the expansion of the fields of study and degree levels, the faculty of mathematical sciences was established in 2014.
This faculty contains three specialized sites for all different levels of study, a Super Computer, classrooms equipped with technological equipment for the fields of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science.
Admitting students in the field of Nutrition in 1964 was the basis for the establishment and expansion of biological sciences. In 2014 the faculty started its activities independently in the three departments of Biotechnology, Plant Sciences and Microbiology.
The faculty is equipped with specialized laboratories: Microbiology, Zoology, Animal Physiology, Plant Physiology, Tissue Culture, Plant Research, Herbarium, Industrial Microbiology, Fermentation, Genetics, Biochemistry and Bioinformatics.
The faculty admits students in all three degree levels.
The fields of physics and chemistry were established in 1977 in the faculty of basic sciences. The faculty of Physics and Chemistry became independent in 2014. The faculty is equipped with state of the art facilities, laboratories and electron microscopes and admits students at all levels in a variety of branches of the fields of Physics, Chemistry, Nano and Photonics.
The faculty of Engineering was established in 1994 to train professional women in various fields of engineering. The faculty now has diverse areas of study and receives students in undergraduate and graduate levels. The faculty is also equipped with specialized workshops and laboratories in the fields of Industrial Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
The foundation for this faculty was based on the admission of students in the field of housekeeping techniques in 1964. In 1969 the fields of Tailoring, Fashion Design, Textile Recognition, Arts and Interior Design were added. The faculty of Arts was the first arts faculty in the country to reopen after the culture revolution in 1982 and started its activities as an independent faculty in 1985.
This faculty is equipped with specialized workshops and 7 specialized departments in the fields of Visual Communication, Handicraft, Textile Design, Fashion Design, Industrial Design, Book Illustration and Miniature and Painting for undergraduate and master’s degree and Arts Research for the PhD level.
